Executive Summary
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimizing how a brand appears in AI-generated search results across platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. As AI assistants increasingly replace traditional search for product discovery and research, a new category of tools has emerged to help brands monitor, optimize, and influence what these systems say about them.
The market moved fast. Profound, founded in 2024, reached unicorn status ($1B valuation) within 18 months. Adobe acquired Semrush for $1.9B, partly for its GEO capabilities. Total identified venture funding across pure-play GEO startups now exceeds $255 million. The category has gone from nonexistent to overcrowded in under two years.
We identified and evaluated 20+ companies operating in this space. What follows is an unbiased assessment of who they are, what they offer, how they price, and which tool fits which buyer.
Key Findings
- $255M+ in venture capital has entered the GEO tools market since mid-2024, led by Sequoia, Lightspeed, Kleiner Perkins, NEA, Felicis, Singular, and 20VC
- Pricing ranges from €20/month (GeoGen) to $15,000/month (BrandLight). Most enterprise platforms cluster around $250–500/month
- The right tool depends more on your team size and use case than your budget
- The market splits into clear tiers: enterprise platforms (Profound, Bluefish, Evertune), funded mid-market challengers (Peec AI, Scrunch, AthenaHQ), and budget entry-level tools (GeoGen, Geoptie, Rankscale, Otterly)
- No single tool dominates across all dimensions. Profound leads in data scale. Evertune uniquely bridges GEO and programmatic advertising. Scrunch is the only platform with AI-native content delivery (AXP)
- Peec AI is the fastest-growing by customer count (1,300+ in 10 months). AthenaHQ has the strongest technical pedigree (Google Search + DeepMind founders)
- Every existing "best GEO tools" list online is written by a GEO company ranking itself #1. This is the first independent landscape analysis of the category
Market Overview
Why GEO Exists
The shift is structural. ChatGPT now serves over 800 million weekly users. More than 60% of information retrieval now happens through AI platforms. Gartner projects traditional search volume will drop 25% by 2026. When someone asks an AI assistant for a product recommendation, the brand that shows up in the answer wins. The brand that doesn't show up doesn't exist.
Traditional SEO was built for a world of blue links and page rankings. GEO is built for a world where a single AI-generated paragraph replaces ten pages of search results. The optimization targets are different, citations, sentiment, share of voice instead of keywords and backlinks, the measurement is different (probabilistic AI responses instead of deterministic rankings), and the competitive dynamics are different (up to 90% of cited sources in AI answers can change over time).
Market Size and Funding
The GEO tools market barely existed before mid-2024. In the 18 months since, at least $255 million in venture capital has flowed into pure-play GEO startups. Profound alone accounts for $155 million, reaching unicorn status in February 2026. Peec AI raised $29 million and hit $100M+ valuation within 10 months of launch. Bluefish raised $24 million. Evertune and Scrunch each raised roughly $19 million. The remaining capital is distributed across BrandLight ($5.75M) and AthenaHQ ($2.2M).
The investor list reads like a who's who of Silicon Valley and European venture: Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins, NEA, Salesforce Ventures, Felicis Ventures, Singular, 20VC, Khosla Ventures, Y Combinator, Bloomberg Beta, Antler, and NVIDIA NVentures. Angel investors include data scientists from OpenAI and Meta. This is not speculative seed money. This is conviction capital.
On the incumbent side, Adobe acquired Semrush for $1.9 billion in late 2025, partly to bolt GEO capabilities onto its Experience Cloud. BrightEdge, Ahrefs, and other established SEO platforms have added GEO modules to their existing suites.
Buyer Segments
- Fortune 500 enterprises: Need compliance (SOC 2), multi-brand support, custom methodologies, white-glove onboarding. Willing to pay $500+/month. Primary options: Profound, Bluefish, Evertune.
- Mid-market brands ($10M–500M revenue): Need actionable insights without a dedicated GEO team. Budget: $100–500/month. Primary options: Scrunch, AthenaHQ, Peec AI, Goodie AI.
- Agencies: Need multi-client dashboards, pitch workspaces, white-label reporting. Primary options: Scrunch (agency plan), AthenaHQ, GeoGen, Profound.
- SMBs and solo practitioners: Need affordable entry points to understand if GEO matters for their business. Budget: under $100/month. Primary options: GeoGen, Geoptie, Peec AI, Rankscale, Otterly, HubSpot AI Search Grader (free).
Competitive Landscape Map
The following analysis positions every identified company across two dimensions: product breadth (monitoring-only vs. full-stack) and market traction (funding, customer base, brand recognition).
Three distinct clusters emerge. The upper-right quadrant contains the well-funded enterprise platforms, Profound, Bluefish, Evertune, with broad feature sets and significant market traction. The middle band holds specialized mid-market tools with narrower feature sets but strong positioning in specific niches. The lower-left contains entry-level monitoring tools and free options that serve as on-ramps to the category.
The most interesting positions are the outliers. Evertune sits uniquely at the intersection of GEO and programmatic advertising. Scrunch occupies a distinctive position with its Agent Experience Platform (AXP) for AI-native content delivery. Peec AI is the fastest-growing company by customer acquisition rate, adding 300+ customers per month. AthenaHQ punches above its funding weight with Google Search and DeepMind founders.

Buyer's Guide
The right GEO tool depends on three things: your budget, your team size, and what you need the tool to do.
Fortune 500 Brand
You need enterprise compliance, custom methodologies, and white-glove support. Profound has the broadest feature set and largest dataset. Bluefish offers deepest customization with a founding team that has done this at scale before. Evertune is the pick if connecting GEO insights to programmatic media buying is a priority.
Shortlist: Profound, Bluefish, Evertune
Mid-Market Brand ($10M–500M)
You need actionable insights without hiring a GEO team. Peec AI offers the fastest onboarding and simplest interface at €75/month with a free trial. Scrunch is strong if your priority is technical optimization. AthenaHQ offers credit-based pricing backed by founders who built Google Search. Profound Starter at $99/month is the most affordable entry into an enterprise-grade platform.
Shortlist: Peec AI, Scrunch, AthenaHQ, Profound Starter
Agency
You need multi-client dashboards, pitch workspaces, and scalable reporting. Scrunch has a dedicated agency plan at $500/month with pitch environments. AthenaHQ offers agency workspaces. GeoGen provides per-entity pricing that scales well for agencies managing multiple brands. Profound supports white-label reporting.
Shortlist: Scrunch Agency, AthenaHQ, GeoGen, Profound
Testing GEO for the First Time
Start cheap. HubSpot's AI Search Grader is free for a one-time assessment. GeoGen starts at €20/month. Rankscale starts at $20/month. Geoptie offers the most features at the entry level ($49/month with a 14-day free trial). Peec AI offers a free trial at €75/month. Prove that GEO matters for your business before committing to a $300+ platform.
Shortlist: HubSpot (free), Geoptie, GeoGen, Rankscale
Already Using an SEO Platform
Check your existing tools first. Ahrefs Brand Radar is included with Lite+ subscriptions and tracks 150M+ prompts. Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99/month as an add-on. BrightEdge is adding GEO modules for existing enterprise clients. The integration advantages of staying in your current stack may outweigh the feature advantages of a dedicated GEO tool, at least initially.
Shortlist: Ahrefs Brand Radar, Semrush AI Visibility, BrightEdge
